Creating a beautiful picture is not enough. Once the owner of even the most comfortable interior will want to bring a part of himself into the atmosphere. We’ll tell you how to do it. In the living room, despite the name, we do not often meet guests, for the most part we spend time here with our family or alone. Unlike the bedroom, which they try to make as calm and peaceful as possible, and the kitchen, where it should be convenient to cook in the first place, the living room can be anything.

However, we are inclined to think that it is this space that should be equipped as much as possible in accordance with one’s own character. In this case, you, as the owner, will always feel unity with the interior, and any of your guests will immediately understand whose house they have entered.

1. Write lists

Every great business starts with a plan, and our case is no exception. Take a piece of paper and write down a list of what you love most about interiors. Style, shades, presence or absence of metallic sheen, mirrors and open shelves and so on. In the future, relying on this list and not being distracted by trifles, you can successfully go all the way to the last point.

2. Let’s start simple

You can stop at any point as soon as you realize that the job is done. That is why we start with the simplest – with fittings. The handles, hooks, and latches on your living room furniture should be consistent with a single style, ideally your favorite.

3. We are looking for a carpet

Floor textiles are a more than serious thing that can have a tangible impact on the atmosphere of the room, and on the interior as a whole. A carpet can act as a color accent, a link between styles, or simply be pleasant to the touch and neutral in palette. Answer yourself the question of what exactly you want to achieve, and feel free to embark on the difficult process of finding the perfect model.

4. Mix and match

You have a favorite armchair in your bedroom, a charming shelving unit in your office, and a few earthenware vases in the kitchen. And just recently, you saw, well, just a fantastic vintage globe, which – that’s bad luck – does not go well with anything. What to do? Collect everything together in the living room!

5. Focus on character

Everything that characterizes you as a person and can be expressed in objective reality has the right to settle in the living room: your favorite book, a pillow embroidered with your hand, part of a geological collection of minerals or a poster from the premiere of your favorite movie.

6. Use the walls

Walls are the best storytellers. However, instead of the usual objects of painting or photography, we recommend hanging a few controversial works on the wall, which will certainly raise questions from guests. It is inappropriate to shock the public in this case, but it is quite acceptable to open a discussion about the place of art in the life of a modern person.

7. Develop the theme of the walls

Moldings will not go out of fashion in the coming decades, we promise you. They can be safely used for interior design of any style. And how many variations of their application exist – and do not count at all. Even in eclecticism, they can find a worthy place, and emphasize the courage and originality of the interior owner.

8. Moving on to wallpaper

Do you think that really interesting wallpaper models are too expensive? In branded stores, you can now buy the remains of the most current series for a penny and, using the same moldings, create a composition worthy of publication in a glossy magazine.

9. DIY

Can’t draw or sculpt? As experience shows, now, in order to create something outstanding, it is not necessary to have special skills. Get inspired by a couple of pieces of modern art and create your own. Here you can implement point 6.

10. Grab a brush

Did you enjoy painting the canvas? Go to the walls, furniture and ceiling. Doubt? Use stencils.
